According to a legend, in Mahabharatha, when the Pandavas married Draupadi,Kunti wanted to test whether her daughter-in-law is capable of managing the household with scarce resources.So Kunti gave Draupadi some leftover sabzi and just enough wheat dough to make one puri and instructed her to make food that would satisfy the hunger of all five Pandavas.

Then Draupadi prepare a dish which consists of two items, one of which is puffed crispy small dough balls which are hollow and includes chick peas and sabzi and the other is seasoned sweet/sour water. This new dish, is today known as Pani Puri (Golgappa)...
